PROPERTY FROM THE ESTATE OF CHARLES F. LIVINGSTON
These portraits depict Thomas T. Azpell (circa 1790-1860) and his wife, Bithiah (circa 1793-1861). Thomas, born in New York, spent his adult life in Philadelphia. He worked as a teacher through the 1820s and 1830s, and by the 1850 Census was registered as a merchant. Their son Dr. Thomas Francis Azpell (1828-1888), a Captain and Assistant Surgeon in the United States Army, inherited the portraits, which then descended through the family.
